 FOREWORD

Welcome to the first edition of the Personal Finance Center
Update, a weekly report on the resources available from the
GNN Personal Finance Center (PFC). The Update is composed of
three sections: a Foreword, a list of New Resources added to
the PFC over the past week, and a rundown of Coming Attractions.

 NEW RESOURCES

The New Resources section of pfc-update is broken down
according to the four principal areas of the Personal Finance
Center: Internet Resources, Perspectives, Notes & News, and
Marketplace.

* Internet Resources: Two new items have been added to
the PFC, both electronic mail resources and both relevant
to the more speculative realms of investing.

- Daily Futures Report: a daily price and volume report
covering commodity, securities, and currency futures,
distributed free via e-mail by Skipper Brown Co. To receive
daily futures quotes, send e-mail with no subject to
futures-request@netcom.com. In the body of them message,
  type: "join data" (no quotes).

- Daily China Headline News from AsiaInfo: a good way
to get a quick take on daily business and investment
developments in China. For a free e-mail subscription,
send mail to LISTSERV@ASIAINFO.COM, with the following
line in mail body: SUB HEADLINE Firstname Lastname

* Perspectives: the Perspectives area is where readers will
find articles, interviews, and columns on personal finance
and investment topics. New material typically runs for a
month before being retired to the archives.

- "Life with EDGAR" : an interview with Mark Ginsburg of the
NYU Stern School of Business. Mark is a lead developer of
the Internet EDGAR Dissemination Project, an heroic attempt
to make the gigabytes of corporate filings to the Securities
Exchange Commission available over the Internet. The Interview
includes links to the major EDGAR sites on the Net.

* Notes & News: The Notes & News area contains brief items on
developments of interest to the Internet personal finance
community.

- With increasing frequency, employers are encouraging workers
to purchase an equity stake in their company. This week's
Notes & News item discusses the trend and points readers to
the Foundation for Enterprise Development web server, a rich,
if not entirely unbiased, source of information about employee
  equity plans.

* Marketplace: A resource for detailed company information.
The Personal Finance Center Marketplace presently includes
company sponsored information about The Company Corporation;
Leonard S. Raphael, CPA; and the National Semiconductor
Corporation's TyIN 4000.

 COMING ATTRACTIONS:

- Available Wednesday 7/20/94: "Online Investment Schemes" :
A report from the North American Securities Administrators
Association on the investment schemes that are cropping up on
the Internet and on commercial online services like Prodigy
and Compuserv. The report contains solid advice for the online
investment community. For readers without access to GNN and
the World Wide Web, the report is available via e-mail. Simply
  send a blank e-mail message to schemes@nasaa.mailer.net . The
report will be automatically sent to you.

- Later This Week: Richard Eversole presents his view of Multi-
level Marketing schemes in a response to Arnold Kling's "Make
  Money Fast".

- Next Week: Oliver Sharp weighs in with "Classic Mistakes,
Fallacies, and Traps" a 'take no prisoners' look at investment
errors most of us make at one time or another.

 FINAL NOTE

Although responses to items within the update cannot be posted
directly to the list address, I would be glad to answer any
inquiries via electronic mail.

	Cheers,
                 Abbot
